Semya is a non-governmental organization established in early 2007, offering humanitarian support to various social institutions in the Dnepropetrovsk province of the Ukraine. Home to roughly one million inhabitants, Dnepropetrovsk is located southeast of Ukraine's capital Kiev on the Dnieper River.  

Through collaborating with community sponsors, volunteers and overseas donors, Semya’s initiatives include the following specific programs:

Support for orphans and children’s homes:

  • English language instruction and after-school tutoring
  • Recreational, educational and cultural activities
  • Orphanage improvement projects

Transitional program for orphaned youth:

  • Socialization and mentoring for older teenagers who will soon transition from their orphanage home to an independent adult life
  • A transitional home for post-institutionalized youth-at-risk   

Humanitarian relief:

  • Sourcing and distributing humanitarian aid to schools, orphanages and centers for the disabled
  • Providing relief to underprivileged families in the local community

Laughter therapy:

  • Weekly programs at the pediatric wards of two local hospitals
  • Interactive clown performances at orphanages
