Project Managers: Alicia Romero de Colusi, Pablo Ablanedo, Mariana Colusi
Comedor Comunitario por una Sonrisa is a community assistance project dedicated to the support of marginalized children and families in Barrio los Tilos in Buenos Aires.
This hunger prevention project has been operating for over 10 years, benefitting hundreds of children in this low income area. Its current project managers previously facilitated humanitarian aid distribution and IT training programs for youth in Mexico City.
The “Comedor,” or community dining hall, offers nutritious meals to over 120 children aged 3 to 14, and single moms. Food parcels are provided to take home and clothing donations are also distributed to needy families. Special events, such as National Children’s Day are celebrated with entertainment, games and special treats.
Plans are underway to create a children’s library providing educational support and access to informational resources. Parents of children attending the program will benefit from a Professional Parents program, with regular workshops aimed at promoting communication within families, solutions for solving conflicts, and improving relationships.
